Il Rifugio Branca

The C. Branca mountain shelter is located 2,943 mts. above sea level in the heart of the Stelvio National Park and is run by the Alberti/Confortola family, situated facing the large Forni Glacier and dominated by the S.Matteo (3678 m.), Tresero, (3594 m.), Vioz (3645 m.), Palòn de la Mare (3708 m.) and Cevedale (3769 m.) peaks. The Branca mountain shelter offers one of the rarest panoramic views of the Alps and is the departure point for numerous ascents to all the peaks in the Forni Glacier Circle.
It offers the opportunity of excursions suitable for all ages and an endless choice of walks, both on the glacier (glaciological track) and on green mountain pastures. From the Branca mountain shelter in springtime one can make numerous ski-touring or snowshoeing excursions, sports activities which offer great satisfaction in an unpolluted fascinating mountain environment.

The Milan branch of the Club Alpino Italiano are the proprietors of the C. Branca mountain shelter. It is open from March for ski-touring, until September for excursions and outings. Easy to reach both in summer and in springtime it is in the centre of the large Forni Glacier basin surrounded by the Cevedale (m.3769), Palòn de la Mare (m.3708), M. Vioz (m.3644), M. Taviela (m.3588), M. S.Matteo (m.3692) and M. Tresero (m.3594) peaks. The building is comfortable, welcoming and equipped with every facility. The management has been entrusted to the Alberti/Confortola family for three generations: from its inauguration in 1934 to 1972 in the hands of Alpine Guide Felice Alberti, born in 1903, then passed on to his son, Eugenio, Alpine Guide and Ski Instructor with his sister Attilia and nephew and niece Paolo and Enrica Confortola.
